Generations of idols
From first generation of 90's idol like S.E.S. & Fin.k.l. to early 2000's idols like girl's generation, 4 minutes to big bang and to the current generation of idol like Wannaone, IOI, Twice and others, Kpop has gone a long way from its' humble beginnings.
I remember watching H.O.T. and S.E.S. on MTV channel when I was in my teenage years. Now I am watching idols like twice and product 101. Kpop evolved at an amazing and breakneck pace.
In the 90's, most people in Korea will know High five Of Teenage (HOT). Their songs like candy, warrior's descendent (전사의 후예) are their big hits. The fans of H.O.T. used to have a rivalry with fans of Sech Kies (which is another top tier Kpop male group).
One of the group I followed when I was just a teen.
Super Junior (Suju), I bet a lot of us will know them. SM entertainment created them with a purpose in mind. That is to create a idol group that is well versed in different aspect of entertainment. Like Shin Dong and Heechul are good at variety shows. Ryeowook and Yesung are good at singing. Donghae is good at dancing. With Siwon as the center man acting as the face of the group.
All of them are talented in their own ways.
BTS (Bangtan boys aka 방탄소년단). The hottest idol group as of now. They are popular even in the US and around the world. Their hits include fire (불타오르네), I need you, blood sweat and tears (피 담 눈물), fake love and idol, they have cemented their position as one of the hottest group around.
